Boat maintenance differs from every other section on the platform in that pricing starts from the vessel's own dimensions: length and width in feet. Anti-fouling a 24-foot boat and a 40-foot boat are not the same job or the same quantity, and neither can be estimated from a general description.
If the request concerns the engine, the required detail is finer still: engine type — outboard, inboard, sterndrive or jet — how many, horsepower, two-stroke or four-stroke, and production year. These are not formalities; parts and service procedures change with them. Hull work — fiberglass, gelcoat and anti-fouling — normally requires hauling the boat out of the water, which has to be factored into scheduling. And trailer servicing is its own item, frequently forgotten.

Common questions about marine services
Why are boat length and width in feet required?
Because most marine work is priced by area or vessel size: paint quantity, cleaning and polishing hours, and haul-out requirements all follow the dimensions. A general description is not enough for an accurate offer.
What engine information is needed?
Type (outboard, inboard, sterndrive or jet), how many, horsepower, cycle (two-stroke or four-stroke), production year, and the brand if known. These details determine parts and service procedures.
What is anti-fouling paint and how often is it redone?
It is a hull coating that resists marine growth building up on the underside. How often it is repeated depends on how long the boat stays in the water and on the coating used, and it is work that requires hauling the boat out.
